NVIDIA Broadcast review: free is the headline, RTX is the toll
The free tools in this category are usually free the way samples are free — small and expiring. Broadcast is the exception: genuinely free, genuinely excellent, and priced instead in hardware you may not own.
What Broadcast is
NVIDIA Broadcast (version 2.2.1 as we write) turns an RTX-equipped Windows PC into what NVIDIA calls a virtual studio: Noise Removal, Room Echo Removal, Studio Voice on the audio side, plus camera tricks we do not score here. Like Krisp, it presents a virtual microphone that any call or streaming app can select; unlike Krisp, the models run on the GPU’s tensor cores, which is both its brilliance and its border wall.
Reading the row: a 79 with a bimodal audience
Silence (9/10). Noise removal and room-echo removal in one free package is the best no-cost live cleanup on our table; the echo handling in particular addresses the bare-walled-flat problem most rivals ignore.
Toll (5/10). The requirements page is blunt: GeForce RTX 2060, Quadro RTX 3000, TITAN RTX or higher, 8 GB RAM minimum, Windows 10/11 64-bit, NVIDIA driver R570 or newer. And because the models borrow the same silicon your game or render wants, the cost is paid in GPU headroom rather than dollars. Five out of ten is not a punishment; it is a description.
Wallet (10/10). The only ten on our table. No tiers, no meter, no trial theatre — the deal is the hardware you already bought.
Fit (6/10). Windows only. No macOS build, no GTX support (that crowd gets the legacy RTX Voice app), nothing for the Chromebook in the kitchen.

Broadcast costs nothing and asks for a $300 graphics card. “Free” is doing heavy lifting in that sentence.
What the score refuses to hide
The conditions on the recommendation, stated as conditions:
- RTX 2060 or better, full stop. A GTX 1080 owner is directed to the legacy RTX Voice app, which NVIDIA maintains as an afterthought.
- Windows only — the Mac half of a mixed household gets nothing.
- The GPU pays the bill: while Broadcast filters your mic, your frame rates and render times inherit the cost. Streamers should measure before trusting.
- No cross-device story: settings live on that one PC, and only that PC.
Who should actually use it
Use it if you own the card and live on Windows — at that point our own arithmetic says most people should try it before paying for Krisp. Skip it on macOS, on GTX hardware, or if your GPU is already the bottleneck in your day.
Questions we actually get
- Is NVIDIA Broadcast really free?
- Yes. There is no paid tier, no time meter, no account upsell. The cost structure is the RTX 2060-or-better card it refuses to run without.
- Does it replace RTX Voice?
- For RTX owners, yes — Broadcast absorbed RTX Voice’s noise removal and improved on it. RTX Voice survives as a patched legacy app mainly for GTX cards.
- Will it slow my games down?
- It shares the GPU with them, so some cost is structural. How much depends on your card and settings — measure your own before-and-after; we distrust any universal number, including ones that would flatter this review.
