Sonar is a free mixing desk with noise suppression built in — generous, Windows-only, and unmistakably designed for people whose “meetings” have respawn timers.
What Sonar is
Sonar is the audio suite inside SteelSeries GG: a per-app mixer, an EQ, and ClearCast AI noise cancellation — ClearCast AI Noise Cancellation on mic input plus incoming team audio. Two facts surprise people: it works with any headset and any mic — no SteelSeries hardware required, and it is entirely free. The catch is scope: Windows 10 (RS5+) only; no Xbox/PlayStation.
Reading the row
Silence (7/10). ClearCast meaningfully cuts fans, clicks and housemates, and applying suppression to incoming teammates is a genuine quality-of-life feature. Head-to-head on suppression alone, vendor claims and our reading put it behind Krisp and Broadcast — hence seven.
Toll (8/10). Light at runtime, but it arrives inside the full GG companion suite, which is more software than a meetings-only user wanted.
Wallet (10/10). Free, no strings, no hardware purchase required. The second ten-for-value on our table.
Fit (5/10). Windows 10 and up, and the design centre of gravity is game chat: the mixer thinks in Game/Chat/Media lanes, not in Zoom.

What the score refuses to hide
The conditions, printed:
- Windows only — and inside the GG suite, which auto-starts and occupies more of your system tray than a single feature deserves.
- Suppression quality is good, not front-rank; bare-room echo in particular is better served by Broadcast’s dedicated room-echo removal.
- Documentation is thin next to the marketing — part of why Candor sits at six.
- No macOS, no consoles: the FAQ is explicit that Xbox and PlayStation are out.
Who should actually use it
The natural pick for a Windows gamer who wants one free tool for Discord nights and the occasional daytime stand-up. If your week is mostly meetings, Krisp’s free hour or Broadcast (RTX permitting) fit the job with less baggage.
